Pat Jordan, New York State Teacher of the Year 1993

I am involved in both  structured and informal  activities related to NNSTOY’s mission and to the teaching profession, overall.

Although officially retired from teaching, I still motivate and enhance the success of math students by voluntarily providing tutoring services. I also mentor young teachers, many of whom were once my students, and serve as the keynote speaker at various teacher education events.

As an advocate for teachers in my home state of NY, I have joined other STOYS in addressing our Board of Regents about teacher evaluation policies.

As an active member of NNSTOY, I contribute to workshops and conferences as I support the organization’s efforts to maximize teaching and learning throughout the country.

Believing in the difference that education makes, I  continue to strengthen student education through the Foundation that my sister and I have established to encourage outstanding residents of housing projects to strive for educational excellence.  Our Foundation provides financial resources for these deserving young people to attend college.

During her thirty-year career in secondary school education, Dr. Jordan  held teaching positions in mathematics, computer science, special education, and community service. She also designed curricula, supervised student teachers, implemented staff development programs, and coordinated cultural programs.

Now retired from teaching and a practicing clinical psychologist, , Dr. Jordan is a volunteer tutor, and she is actively involved in alumni programs, professional organizations, and parent associations.

Along with her sister, she established the Juanita James Memorial Scholarship Foundation in memory of their mother. This organization provides financial assistance to college students from housing projects in the Bronx.
