Build for Equity supports proficiency of educational leaders to recruit, hire, develop and retain quality teaching candidates, building and system leaders from historically marginalized populations. NNSTOY drives this through the following partnerships:
NNSTOY conducted a months-long study on how to diversify the teacher workforce. This study, sponsored by ETS (Educational Testing Service), analyzed the practices of current and former educators and school personnel who have overseen hiring educators. A complementary literature review examined the effectiveness of current efforts in place across the country to diversify the teacher workforce. The report consists of nine domains and each domain includes: concepts, arguments, and evidence within each domain; personal stories from educators to illustrate the practical reality of each domain; reflective questions to consider; action steps; and a concluding statement. This report is designed for clear implementation by school and district leaders to set goals, monitor progress, and implement the structures and culture to advance the attraction, retention, and development of diverse educators.
