Dr. Ellen Sherrat

Ellen Sherratt, Ph.D. is a nationally- and internationally-recognized subject matter expert on education policy and a deeply passionate advocate for recruiting and retaining excellent teachers for every child. Along with STOYs from across the country, she led the Teacher Salary Champions campaign and wrote and led national advocacy for the American Teacher Act (H.R. 882). This bill, introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, would raise teacher salaries to at least $60,000. She spearheaded the national initiative to strengthen teacher supply & demand data to move from debate to data-based dialogue around teacher shortages and was a key player in the national push to build comprehensive human capital approaches across to addressing teacher shortages. Dr. Sherratt has collaborated with STOYs on numerous initiatives to elevate teacher leadership and teacher voice in policy, including leading the From Good to Great research series. She has co-authored two books and dozens of articles, and has collaborated with nearly all 50 state departments of education in efforts to ensure every child has access to excellent educators. Dr. Sherratt has been featured on NBC News, Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, MSN News, Yahoo!News, Teacher Talk Radio, Korea FM Talk Radio, Education Week, Educational Leadership, and, often alongside STOYs, at briefings at the U.S. Capitol and at convenings of policymakers, researchers, and educators.
