Michael Dunlea

Michael Dunlea became a teacher to make students feel valued, become empowered and live extraordinary lives. He is a 2012 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year Finalist, a 16 year veteran classroom teacher and currently teaches 3rd grade in Tabernacle, NJ.


He has received the Presidential Award of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, is National Board Certified and is a 2020 NEA Global Learning Fellow. Michael has served as an advisor to the NJ Department of Education and is an active member of the New Jersey Education Association serving on the state Elections Committee and as a state delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly.


Michael founded a non-profit called Stafford Teachers And Residents Together (START), when Hurricane Sandy hit the Southern Jersey Coast, where he lives with his wife of 27 years and his 3 children and was President of Alliance for a Living Ocean, ALO from 2012-2019.


He has a Bachelor's Degree in History from Thomas Edison State College, a Masters Degree in Educational Technology from New Jersey City University and is pursuing a second Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership at Mount Holyoke College.
