Sarah Brown Wessling

Secretary, 2010 National Teacher of the Year

Sarah is the 2010 National Teacher of the Year and a 26-year veteran of the high school English classroom. Sarah has been the Director of CCSSO’s National Teacher of the Year Program since 2022. She is proud to be a National Board Certified Teacher since 2005 and served on their Executive Board from 2013-2022. Sarah is a frequent speaker and facilitator of professional learning around the country and an avid blogger and writer. She also served as the Teacher Laureate for the Teaching Channel for many years and authored Supporting Students in a Time of Core Standards. She is, most importantly, mom to Evan, Lauren and Zachary who keep her grounded and laughing. She’s an avid runner and reader who loves live music, traveling and everyday adventuring. She works full time from Des Moines, Iowa.
