Tim Dove
Board Chair, 2011 and 2012 Ohio Teacher of the Year
Timothy M Dove (Tim) is the 2011 and 2012 Ohio Teacher of the Year. For 45 years, Dove has been engaged as an educator. He has been a middle school for thirty-two years teaching social studies and technology courses. He was an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University for twenty years setting up the first PDS program for secondary social studies M.Ed. students. Tim was also part of a team that developed and implemented a public school alternative program based on mastery assessments and student voice that is still in existence (Phoenix Middle School in Worthington, OH).
Since retirement from Worthington, he has been engaged in developing and implementing a new Global Scholars Program and teaching high schoolers with the Columbus Council of World Affairs. For the last twelve years, Tim has been working with National and State Education Agencies supporting educators and students in a variety of ways. He has been a consultant with Battelle for Kids in Hong Kong, a PD consultant with Learning Forward, a consultant with a variety of national initiatives with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and most recently completed efforts with the Collaboration for Effective Education, Development, Accountability and Reform (CEEDAR) Center at the University of Florida.
His work in Hong Kong supported 12 public Chinese Schools as a consultant in developing data driven PLCs, working with teachers on formative instructional practices and appropriate teacher evaluation strategies. Learning Forward efforts included facilitating a PD Redesign group and implementing teacher leadership support. For ten years he also was an educational consultant with CCSSO and assisted directly in 18 states as a part of the AIPL, SCEE, NSCEE, NTEP and DLRT efforts. Through CEEDAR, Tim was leading work with Utah, New Hampshire, Mississippi, Ohio, Minnesota and Rhode Island working with universities and state education agencies developing policy and supports for teachers to better serve students with disabilities.
He continues to consult for Parent Ready publishing as a coordinator/editor of a series of sixth through twelfth grade books and contributes as an author. The series was designed to offer expert advice to assist parents navigate the school year with their child. Tim designed the project to involved other recognized educators across the United States to contribute their wisdom and advice. He also has worked with McGraw Hill Publishing as a consultant on their World Geography and American History Series and is also published through DC Heath.
Dove is also published in the areas of teacher education, pedagogy, the use of technology and global education.
