Scott Meltzer

As an AmeriCorps alumnus and first-generation college graduate, Scott Meltzer’s passion for helping high-potential students and schools succeed have fueled his experience with private-public sector education partnerships, school turnaround models, and venture philanthropy. Scott currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and President of the National Network of State Teachers of the Year, a network of State Teachers of the Year and Finalists who use their teacher leadership to ensure that every student receives an outstanding education.

 

Scott recently served as Chief of Staff, Office of Student Readiness and Director of Engagement, Office of the Commissioner at the Tennessee Department Education, supporting internal operations and external engagement to serve the academic and non-academic needs of all students. Scott served as Director of Talent Solutions at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, facilitating talent pipelines between Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), postsecondary institutions, and regional employers; young professional retention and attraction strategy and programming; and elected, appointed, and volunteer leadership preparation for MNPS. Previously, Scott was an Impact Manager, Chief of Staff, and then Managing Director of Philanthropy at City Year, an education nonprofit dedicated to supporting students and schools with full-time, near-peer tutors, mentors, and role models. Prior to returning to City Year, Scott was Deputy Director of The 80/20 Foundation, managing philanthropic investments and strategic partnerships in technology education, entrepreneurship, and urban lifestyle options for Graham Weston, Co-founder and former Chairman of Rackspace Hosting. Scott was a 2015 candidate for the San Antonio Independent School District Board of Trustees, endorsed by the San Antonio Express-News editorial board. He serves as an advisory board member of Philanthropitch. Scott earned a B.A. in Sociology from Centre College, M.A. in Educational Leadership from St. Mary's University, and Certificate in Education Finance from Georgetown University.

 

When he is not enjoying a local bagel, you can find him hiking at a state park in Tennessee, one of only seven states in the country to provide free access to its state parks.
