NNSTOY is proud to announce that the 2015 Kay Battista Scholarship recipient is Margaret Merritt from Sevier County High School in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Margaret maintained a 4.0 GPA, took all honor classes, and even found time to enroll in extra classes at Walter State Community College. She plans to attend East Tennessee State University where she plans to major in elementary education, and minor in Spanish. Her goal is to be able to communicate fully with the fast growing Hispanic community in her school system.

"Ever since I was a little girl," she explained, "I have wanted to be a teacher. Teaching is important to me because I will be able to have an impact on numerous children that will last a lifetime."

Some of Maggie's achievements include: the Computer Literacy Award, the Presidents Volunteer Service Award, the All District Tennis Award, and being an East Tennessee State University Roan Scholar Nominee. She was also president of the Sevier County High School Foundation Ambassadors, the Membership Secretary of her school's science club, the Youth Missions Team Leader and the Teenboard Dance Ad Chairperson. She is very involved with her church and community and volunteers many hours through a Service Learning Class. Maggie wants nothing more in life than to be able to make a difference in and outside of the classroom for all her future students.

Congratulations, Maggie! We know you will fulfill your dreams, and help inspire the dreams of your students along the way.
