GIVING TEACHERS TIME FOR ESSA

Categories: Uncategorized

Democratic Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Bobby Scott are worried that teachers, paraprofessionals and other school personnel don't have enough time outside of the classroom to participate in planning and development for the Every Student Succeeds Act. In a letter sent to Education Secretary John B. King Jr. today, they're asking the department to quickly provide guidance and technical assistance to states and school districts about eliminating systemic barriers, "including the barrier of lack of release time," to ensure true collaboration and input from educators when implementing the law. They write: "We expect the Department of Education to use every available opportunity to assist states and school districts to make consultation processes truly meaningful, including by breaking down barriers to ensure full participation of all stakeholders in consultation processes."
